Program Description
Hofstra in Japan Program
July 3-August 4, 2013
Discover Japan through a four-week study abroad program. The 2013 program offers the beauty of Japan while retaining all the great, newly added events of the 2012 program such as staying in a Zen-temple deep in the mountains and udon-noodle making. Let’s visit Japan and learn about the tenacity, community and power of the Japanese people who overcame numerous devastating experiences. Tokyo Future University’s dormitory will be our home for three weeks in Tokyo. Then, we will embark on a 10-day trip to west and northeast Japan.
Why should we visit Japan now?
- Japan has been overcoming their worst disaster since World War II with such amazing patience, tenacity, and tranquility. This is a great opportunity to learn about the culture of Japan, and experience a changing society recovering from a major disaster. Because your safety is our top priority, we are taking the necessary precautions during the program. We will adhere to the U.S. Department of State’s advisory and stay away from areas north of Tokyo. Despite the recent shocking pictures and video clips, Japan’s very low crime rate and high sanitary and safety standards make it much safer than most countries in the world.
- Japan still remains one of the only non-Western major country that has achieved a high standard of living, all without losing its cultural uniqueness.
- Hofstra in Japan has established very close and steady relations with Tokyo Future University. Our exchange opportunities with local college students have never been this rich and broad.
