Odyssey: Education By Travel

Eight weeks (the second half of the spring semester).

Description

An "odyssey" is an extended journey. A New College Odyssey course is often described as a journey of discovery and transformation. During Professor Longmire's odysseys, students do more than just travel – they learn history, economics, political science, and cultural diversity; they move backward and forward in time; they observe situations they wouldn't experience any other way; and they solve problems that come up daily. As Professor Longmire puts it, the requirements for being accepted for an odyssey are "the maturity, flexibility, patience, cultural curiosity and initiative to be able to travel, live and study in close quarters with others for nearly eight weeks."

Eligibility

Students must be in good academic and financial standing.
Juniors and seniors are given preference in admission to the program.
