Study Abroad

Overview

Hofstra University students have many opportunities to earn credits while studying overseas. Many choose the summer and intersession programs, which have been developed over the years by different schools at Hofstra University. These programs are also open to those who wish to participate without earning credit.

In addition, Hofstra University offers two Study Abroad Fairs during the academic year. The fall Study Abroad Fair will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2008, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room, Mack Student Center, North Campus.

This Web site provides a brief description of the programs currently available at the University. The fees listed for each program are estimates based on the information provided at the time of this site's development. Actual costs will depend on prevailing airfares, the exchange rate and other factors. Please also note that there may be slight variations in the academic program each semester.

Students from other colleges and universities may be eligible to participate in Hofstra's programs. Students may determine eligibility by contacting the appropriate program director or the Office of International Students and Study Abroad Programs.

General Eligibility

Students in good standing are eligible to study abroad. Some programs require a B average or better, in addition to sophomore or junior standing. Others require some language proficiency or prior academic course work.

Credits

Students enrolling in Hofstra programs earn Hofstra University program credits. Hofstra students will have the appropriate course(s) recorded on their official records.

Payment

Hofstra University students pay the program fee at the Student Administrative Complex on South campus. Other students are billed for tuition and fees after acceptance.

Financial Aid

Hofstra students who study abroad for Hofstra University credit are eligible to receive the same amount of financial aid as if taking the course(s) on the Hofstra campus during the fall and spring semesters. Students must submit a completed and signed "Study Abroad Through Hofstra University" form to the Office of Financial Aid in Memorial Hall, South Campus, in order to receive appropriate financial aid and loans. Financial aid is seldom available for summer or intersession programs. Students from other institutions should contact their financial aid office.
