Hofstra in Peru
Summer
Description
The Hofstra in Peru Program invites you to spend a month exploring ancient and contemporary Peru. You will learn about the ancient Andean world and its unique sociopolitical structures that have now become a wellspring for contemporary social regeneration. You will also learn about the many emerging social, economic, and cultural responses to globalization throughout Latin America and especially in Peru. We start in Lima, the seat of the colonial viceroy of South America and today the capital of Peru, and then spend a week in Cuzco, the center of the Inca Empire. From Cuzco we venture out to Machu Picchu, the ancient lost city of the Andes, and to Sacsayhuaman, the sacred Inca fortress overlooking Cuzco. The program includes tours, museum visits and invited lectures, as well as excursions both inside and outside of Lima.
