During Summer Session I, the Department of Marketing and International Business offers a study abroad program for both undergraduate and graduate students. Classes offered are MKT 170/IB 170 and MKT 220, International Marketing (three credits each). Other classes (e.g., IB 207) can be arranged individually. The program includes three (3) weeks of class on-campus at Hofstra, and two weeks of class and travel in China.

We will visit Beijing, the capital city and the political and cultural center of the country; Tianjin, a major port city and commercial center on the Bohai Bay, east of Beijing; and Shanghai, the "New York City" of China.

Program Highlights

  • A one-day trip to Tianjin via bullet train
  • A four-day trip to Shanghai, the largest metropolis in China, to visit the World Expo 2010 and other exciting sights
  • Lectures
  • Visits to retail centers such as Wal-mart and Carrefour, and local universities and companies
  • Market excursions
  • Interactions with people in both businesses and universities

Prerequisites

For MKT/IB 170, the prerequisites are 58+ credits (junior standing) and successful completion of MKT 101. The program counts as an elective for marketing majors and minors, fulfills a requirement for the IB major and minor, and counts as an elective for all other majors in the Frank G. Zarb School of Business.

Costs

The estimated program fee is $2,800, plus standard Hofstra University tuition and fees for three (3) credits. The program fee covers round-trip airfare, lodging and travel expenses in China, and other miscellaneous expenses.
