Howard Kassinove

Howard Kassinove

Howard Kassinove, who joined the Hofstra faculty in 1966, earned a Ph.D. at Adelphi University’s Institute for Advanced Psychological Studies. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science, and is board certified in clinical psychology. Dr. Kassinove has published more than 60 articles, 11 book chapters, an edited book, a co-authored book and a DVD training program. He has given more than 40 international and 75 national presentations at scientific or professional conferences.

Dr. Kassinove served as chair of Hofstra’s Psychology Department and is a member of the core faculty for the Ph.D. Program in Clinical and School Psychology. He was director of postdoctoral studies in marital and sex therapy, and was in private practice for 30 years.

Married to Tina Boyarin for 41 years, both their sons are Hofstra University graduates. Dr. Andrew Kassinove, an undergraduate philosophy major, completed law school at Georgetown University. He then entered medical school and is currently an emergency room physician in Los Angeles. Dr. Jeffrey Kassinove, who earned undergraduate and doctoral degrees at Hofstra, has studied patterns of excessive gambling. He now has a psychotherapy practice on Long Island and in New York City.

Howard Kassinove is well-known internationally. Although he has focused on trips to Russia (18 times) and India (seven times), among other places, he also has lectured in Argentina, Denmark, Greece, Korea, Poland and Spain. He consistently invites psychology graduate students to join his trips abroad in order to sensitize them to the worldwide diversity of human behavior.
