As part of this multi-step process employee workstations will receive certain updates overnight on two separate dates to prepare them for the move to Active Directory.

Watch for an email notification after Feb 16 informing you of the two evenings you will be asked to save and close all work and leave your machine logged in and locked. Required patches and upgrades will be installed overnight. Your machine will automatically restart when the installations are completed. Please note if your machine has already received these updates it will not be restarted.

Class Standing Changes

Effective September 1, 2011: An undergraduate student credited with 30 semester hours will be ranked as a sophomore; with 60 semester hours, a junior; and 90 semester hours, a senior.

Coming Soon

File and Print Service Upgrade (On-Campus PC Desktops only)

Your workstation has specialized settings for you. In March, software will be installed on your workstation to insure that your data and information specific to your desktop settings will be seen by the Active Directory Network. (This is called "Profile Mapping")

In April, your file and print services will be integrated into the Active Directory Network.

Watch for email notifications. MACs and laptops not included.

Banner Enrollment Management System

The Office of Admissions and Computer Center personnel are busy planning the installation and configuration of the new Banner Enrollment Management System. This customer relationships management system will allow Hofstra personnel to identify, engage and track relationships with prospects, students, and alumni.

By January 31, 2010, all workstations will be joined to Active Directory. The only changes you will notice are two new graphics when you login. Simply login with your existing network user name and password and follow the instructions.

Watch for email notification announcing when your area will complete the first part of this transition as your workstation will be joined to Active Directory.

Buzz Words

What is Polling in Outlook? Polling is a feature in Outlook in which you can add a voting button to an email and then receive and track all responses. Simply create a new e-mail message, or open a message that you want to reply to or forward. In the message window, on the Options >tab, in the Tracking group, click Use Voting Buttons. Select the responses you wish to received, compose your email and send. Responses to your email will contain the voting choice in the subject line.

You can also track voting responses. Open the original message with voting buttons that you sent. This message is usually located in the Sent Items folder. On the Message tab, in the Show group, click Tracking.
