Weather Emergency

A Weather Emergency is any weather event that causes Hofstra University to delay or cancel classes or scheduled events. The Hofstra University CAMPUS ALERTS webpage or call (516) 463-SNOW to obtain information concerning special announcements or emergency weather alerts.

In most cases, weather events are accurately predicted by local weather forecasts. When a weather emergency is predicted, the PPD will schedule the employees needed to handle the anticipated event.

In the case of an un-predicted weather event, the PPD will call in employees as needed to handle the situation.

In all cases, the safety of our resident students, faculty, staff and visitors is of primary concern. Areas which have to remain open, such as a dormitory, will have priority over non-populated areas.

During weather events, both emergency and non-emergency, involving snow, certain parking rules restricting parking lot usage will be enforced to allow for proper snow removal. Please refer to Public Safety for more information.
