Description: The following position is a part-time temporary grant funded position.

The Hofstra University Museum seeks a dynamic, experienced Museum Educator with art history and/or visual arts background for a grant-funded renewable 25-hour per week temporary part-time Museum Educator position. The selected individual will work with the Museum’s Education Director and staff to implement an innovative educational program, Art Travelers through Time: History and Literacy through Art at the Hofstra University Museum. The Museum Educator (ME) will help maintain and build relationships with local school district administrators, educators, and students. Now in its eighth year, this grant-funded program focuses on connecting 3rd grade students and teachers to the value of studying original art from diverse cultures linking directly to classroom curriculum.

The selected individual will be responsible for assisting in all phases of the program’s implementation including, but not limited to: planning curriculum, preparing interpretive materials (digital and print), teaching students in both the Museum galleries and district classrooms, documenting all aspects of the program, planning and teaching related educator workshops, assessing and evaluating the learning goals and objectives of the program. Mostly morning hours required with some additional flexible hours.


Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a dynamic teacher with an MA or MAT degree in Museum Education or related visual arts, with a minimum of 5 years relevant professional experience. Knowledge of and experience with museum education techniques and resources; best practices in museum education and evaluation; and experience in developing museum/school partnerships. The successful candidate will have a strong track record in developing and implementing participatory programs for adults and students; be a team player with excellent organization skills; excellent research, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills. Valid driver’s license and car required.
