Assistant Professor of Latin American Literatures and Cultures

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Hofstra University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in Latin American literatures and cultures, preferably with an interest in Post-independence Mexico or Central America. We are particularly interested in candidates with interdisciplinary approaches. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Latin American Literatures and/or cultures, native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English, experience teaching language and literatures in Spanish at the college level, and evidence of scholarly productivity.

In addition to maintaining an active research program, the nominee will be expected to contribute to the general education curriculum, teach advanced courses in the field, and participate, as appropriate, in related interdisciplinary programs (e. g. Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Environmental Studies, LGBT studies, etc.). Typical forms of service to the department also include shared coordination of language instruction and occasional participation in study abroad programs. A Ph.D. is required. ABDs will be considered, but must have completed the Ph.D. by the September 2015 start date.
