Program Description

Hofstra in Japan Program
July 8 - August 5, 2009
Summer session 2

Discover traditional and modern Japan through a three-week study abroad program. After three days of intense classroom sessions at Hofstra, we begin our trip in glitzy neon-lit Tokyo and stay there for a week. We then travel from Tokyo to the beautiful mountain village of Shirakawa. After relaxing in the village, we move to Nagoya where we will enjoy the Japanese traditional national sport of Sumo wrestling and visit an ultramodern Toyota factory. Beautiful and historic Kyoto, Nara, and Hiroshima come next, where many shrines and temples are designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The northeastern cities of Hachinohe and Aomori are the settings for the final days of our adventure. In Hachinohe, your host families welcome you to make this trip unforgettable. Here, you will also experience two of the most elaborate and historic summer festivals: Sansha-Taisai and Nebuta.
