Program Details
Sorrento Program:
A Summer at the Italian Seaside
June 25 - July 31, 2008
Summer Session 2
Eligibility
Undergraduate and graduate students from Hofstra and other American universities are all invited to apply.
Housing
Students live in double rooms in shared apartments with fully equipped kitchens or can elect to live with host families carefully chosen by the staff of our host school in Sorrento. Host family arrangements include breakfast and dinner every day.
Our host school, Sorrento Lingue Centro Linguistico Internazionale, is located in the heart of historic Sorrento in a 16th century palazzo steps away from the town's piazza Torquato Tasso, one of Italy's most famous 16th century epic poets. The school is only 50 meters from the sea and within easy access to buses and trains for weekend travel outside Sorrento.
Cost
The program fee* of $4,000 covers program costs for five weeks abroad, including round-trip New York-Naples airfare, ground transportation to-and from the Naples airport, housing (host families include two meals daily), program banquets, Internet access, group excursions and entrance fees. Financial aid in the form of student loans is available. Tuition and fees for two courses (6 s.h.) in Summer Session 2 in Sorrento are equivalent to the 2007-08 tuition and fees for courses taken directly on the Hofstra campus ($4,833).
*This estimated program fee may change as the value of the euro against the U.S. dollar fluctuates.
Application Deadline
A $200 nonrefundable deposit must accompany the preliminary application form (checks made payable to Hofstra University - Sorrento Program). The completed application and deposit are due by March 6, 2008 and must be submitted to the Office of Study Abroad Programs for HCLAS, 300 Calkins Hall.
