I am interested in how chemosensory input mediates behavior. My model organism for studying chemosensory biology is the lobster because the chemical senses play a paramount role in informing the lobster about relevant features in the environment. In particular, I study behaviors associated with feeding. One behavior, antennular grooming behavior, is elicited in response to only one chemical found in their food. I am also exploring behaviors associated with rejection of unpalatable food. In both cases I ultimately interested in how the sensory system detects and processes information leading to these behavior.
