How to Obtain an Internship

There are a variety of courses through which the student can participate in either independent research or an internship. For independent research, we have the following courses BIO 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, and 95. BIO 93 – 95 are designated Honors Level courses that can be used to fulfill Honors College credits. Student normally take 2 semesters of research (maximum total of 6 semester hours.), thus register for 2 courses (ie. BIO 90 and 91; or BIO 93 and 94).

The department also has two internship courses (BIO 185, 186). Once again students are allowed to receive up to 6 semester hours credit for internships. If a student wishes to do an internship, faculty will help to identify internship opportunities. Alternatively, if the student has identified a potential internship opportunity, they can bring it to the Chair of Biology to discuss the possibility. Of prime importance to the department is whether the student will gain valuable skills and experiences that will contribute to the student's long term goals.
