The Department of Biology is committed to scholarship in diverse areas of life science, from molecular biology to ecology. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive, high-quality education that fosters independence in the application of the scientific knowledge and the scientific method. Through exploration of biological principles and organismal diversity our students develop the critical-thinking skills needed to assimilate, interpret and impart knowledge. The Department provides students with the knowledge base and practical skills needed to be highly competitive for the best opportunities available following graduation, including leading professional and graduate school programs.
