Leo A. Guthart Cultural Center Theater

One of the most heralded writers of his generation, Jonathan Lethem has written six novels, ranging from science fiction to westerns to crime fiction. His detective novel, Motherless Brooklyn, narrated by a detective with Tourette’s syndrome, won the National Book Critics’ Circle Award. His best-selling novel The Fortress of Solitude was a brilliant examination of the crucible of adolescence, rock music, superheroes, Brooklyn gentrification and interracial friendships. His sensitive collection of personal essays, The Disappointment Artist, and two short story collections, Men and Cartoons and The Wall of the Sky, the Wall of the Eye further testify to his skill in all forms. In 2005, Lethem was awarded the MacArthur fellowship, among his many other awards.
