Career Potential

Students majoring in fine arts or art history have a great breadth of career opportunities open to them. Graduates are employed in a variety of occupations, from scholarly pursuits in the history of art to careers in teaching, museums, galleries, auction houses, publishing, graphic design, web design, motion graphics design, photography, advertising and public relations.

Furthermore, students who choose to major in fine arts or art history have the usual range of career opportunities all liberal arts majors enjoy, from pursuit of a law career to banking or medicine. Art History, in fact, emerged in the last decade as one of the preferred undergraduate majors for admission to law school.

The study of the visual arts gives the student a philosophical and practical awareness of the ways in which art both reflects and acts upon our culture, a historical foundation for understanding different ideas of aesthetics, and a point of entry into the multifaceted world of art.
