Internships

Art History majors may register for AH 168, an internship course offered in the fall and spring, that requires students to work two days a week in a leading auction house, museum or gallery and write a research paper. Students must work through a faculty adviser and the Office of Off-Campus Education (OCE) to have their internship approved for credit before starting.

Fine Arts majors may take internships in art or design for credit by registering for FA 106, Special Projects. Many fine arts student take advantage of Hofstra’s proximity to New York City by applying for internships at renowned museums, galleries, broadcasting outlets, magazines and publishing houses, and record labels. Faculty members within Hofstra’s Department of Fine Arts and Art History maintain very strong connections to the professional world and are able to help students network with art professionals. Those connections may sometimes lead to internship and career opportunities. As with the Art History internship course, any internship taken for credit must have departmental approval and the guidance of a faculty adviser to make sure the student receives proper academic credit.
