Program Requirements: Semester Hours: 33

Candidates for the Master of Arts in Linguistics: Forensic Linguistics are considered on a “rolling basis.” Thus, there is no strict cut-off date for applying to be admitted in either Spring or Fall. We do, however, strongly recommend applying early and entering in the Fall. Once an application and all supporting credentials are received, the application is reviewed by our Admission Committee.

The program requires 33 semester hours of graduate-level credits. The program is comprised of 3 components: the core curriculum; electives; practicum internship and thesis.

  • Required Core Courses (21 semester hours)
  • Elective Courses (6 semester hours)
  • Internship/Thesis Courses (6 semester hours)

Visit the Hofstra Bulletin for more information.

Students must maintain a B average with no more than one grade of C per semester, or more than two grades of C toward the M.A.

Full-time students will typically complete the program in two years. Part-time students can complete the program in three years; however, the course schedule is designed to enable full time students to move through the program as a cohort and take the courses in a logical sequence.  Scheduling may not be as straightforward for part-timers. See the suggested schedule for full-time students below to determine when each course is offered.

1 Availability of 290 Internship is not guaranteed for any given term due to the limited and changing availability of internships.
2 Full-time status is defined as being registered for at least 9 credit hours in a given semester. However, during the final term, with permission of the M.A. Program Director, performing research for the thesis may be considered as contributing toward verification of full-time status; that is, 6 credits of courses plus performing research for the thesis may be considered full-time.
3 250 Authorship Analysis may only be taken after a student has taken 203 Morphology and Syntax (or an advisor approved equivalent course).
