Anchor/Reporter, NY1 News
Kristen Shaughnessy has been an anchor/reporter for NY1 News since 1995. When she's not anchoring, she covers breaking news for NY1.She was in Brooklyn covering the primaries on Sept.11, 2001 when the call came to move the live truck to the World Trade Center.
She was live on the air when the first tower fell... that report can still be heard on YouTube.
Kristen graduated from Hofstra in 1990 and went to work at WGNY radio in Newburgh, New York. She co-hosted a three hour morning show on the AM station and did news cut-ins on the FM station.
From there she went across the river to Newscenter 6 where she anchored and reported before getting the call to come to NY1.
Kristen grew up in Pine Bush, New York ... ironically without a television in her home. She decided on Hofstra University because after researching the top journalism schools she realized Hofstra was one of the few where a student can start reporting and directing from their freshman year. It provides experience that has proven to be invaluable.
Kristen is married to Joe Bush, a golf pro. They have two girls, Jamie and Kara. While they were at Hofstra, Joe was the kicker for the Hofstra Football team, and for years held the university's longest field goal record.
