Writing Mexico: Authorship and Memory after the Spanish Conquest

Professor of Latin American Cultures and Literatures at Johns Hopkins University (specializing in Literary and Cultural Theory/Colonial Studies)
This lecture will address the role of memory in the cultural construction of Mexico by Bernardino de Sahagún (Historia de las cosas de Nueva España, written soon after the Spanish conquest of Tenochtitlan in 1521), and by the 'anonymous' descendants of Nahuatl intellectuals and priests.
