Hofstra University

Graduate Mathematics

These graduate programs and courses are offered by the Long Island, New York campus of Hofstra University.

The Department of Mathematics offers a Master of Arts in Mathematics. The flexible Master of Arts program accommodates students with interests in a broad spectrum of mathematics and its applications, as well as the natural sciences, mathematical components of the social sciences, and mathematics education.

The Master of Arts program can prepare students for Ph.D. study. Our graduates teach in high school and college, work in industry, and have received fellowships at Ph.D. institutions such as UCLA and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

At Hofstra, we stress close contact between faculty and students through small classes, seminars, and individual reading courses. Classes meet in the evening, one or two evenings a week for each course. Students work with faculty on a variety of research projects, such as our funded research group in mathematical modeling of the heart. You can combine your study of mathematics with another field (under advisement) by applying courses in education, business, computer science, and the natural sciences to your degree.
