Master of Arts
in Mathematics
Program Requirements
The following requirements (for a total of 30 semester hours) must be met for a Master of Arts degree:
- At least 18 semester hours of 200-level mathematics courses including the following:
- Linear Algebra (MATH 211) and Analysis I (221)
- Any two courses chosen from:
- Mathematical Logic (MATH 202), Topology (MATH 203), Complex Analysis (MATH 223), Probability (MATH 241), Ordinary Differential Equations (MATH 261)
- At least one course chosen from:
- Applied Algebra (MATH 212), Analysis II (MATH 222), Statistics (MATH 242), Partial Differential Equations (MATH 262), Optimal Control Theory (MATH 267)
- The remaining credits, subject to the approval of the coordinator of the program, may be chosen from any of the following: biology, computer science, business, or other appropriate graduate areas.
- Completion of an oral comprehensive examination or a master's thesis including an oral defense (in which case, Master's Thesis (MATH 301) may be counted as part of the second requirement above).
