
Hofstra ROTC History
Hofstra University was founded in 1935 as Long Island’s first coeducational and private non-affiliated Liberal Arts College. Hofstra University is located in Hempstead, Long Island, and in a large middle/upper income suburb East of New York City. The Thundering Pride ROTC Battalion has been on campus since 1951. The battalion moved from the densely populated academic area located at Roosevelt Hall, which is on the south side of the campus near the Hofstra Law Library and Hofstra Deli, to the Physical Fitness Center, on the North West side of campus in 2000. Classes for Freshmen and Sophomores are conducted on Thursdays from 2:20 to 3:45 pm. Classes for Juniors and Seniors are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:20 to 3:45 pm. Leadership Lab is once a week, usually on Thursday from 4:15 to 6:15 pm. Some Leadership Labs are on Saturday morning. Physical training is offered three times a week. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6:30 to 7:30 am.
Hofstra ROTC at SUNY Stony Brook
Task Force Thundering Pride began teaching class at SUNY Stony Brook in 2006 supported by the SUNY Stony Brook ROTC Club. These classes support students at Stony Brook and the other schools in Eastern Long Island. Classes are taught in the Student Union during common hour from 1240 to 1400. Leadership Laboratories are taught on Fridays from 1240 to 1500.
