Doctorate Program

Professional Doctorate in Audiology

The Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences Department, in cooperation with Adelphi and St. John's Universities, offers a professional doctorate in audiology (AUD). The primary objective of the AUD program is to produce audiologists who are competent to perform the wide array of diagnostic, remedial, and other services associated with the practice of audiology, and who meet the new standards mandated by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

On-Campus Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic

Our clinic is located in the Saltzman Community Services Center on the South Campus. The Center houses clinics associated with Hofstra's graduate clinical programs. The Center also houses a licensed Day Care facility with children from 8 weeks to 5 years of age.

Off-Campus Affiliations

The program is affiliated with sites throughout the metropolitan New York area including acute and sub-acute care health facilities, rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes, special schools for communicatively disabled children, and private practices.

Accreditation

The program is fully accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).  Questions concerning accreditation may be directed to the program directors, the AuD program coordinator or the to the CAA (301-296-5700).

After December 31, 2006, ASHA will no longer accredit master's programs in audiology. However, the New York State licensure board will continue to award licenses to graduates of master's programs.
