Photos: Hofstra, League of Women Voters Sponsor Panel on Legislative Redistricting

March 3, 2011 – The Department of Political Science and the League of Women Voters Nassau County chapter co-sponsored a panel discussion on New York State’s upcoming legislative redistricting process. The panel included Hofstra Law Professor Eric Lane, Republican consultant and former GOP State Chairman Edward Lurie, League of Women Voters state legislative director Barbara Bartoletti, and New York University Brennan Center for Justice Democracy Program Director Keesha Gaskins. It was moderated by Rosanna Perotti, associate professor of Political Science and department chair. The panel drew more than 125 people, and generated lively debate about the merits of the current redistricting process, which is controlled by state legislators, versus an appointed, non-partisan redistricting commission, which has been proposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
