New College Off-Campus Education

Since 1970, New College has offered students the opportunity for internships at home, internships abroad, and study abroad through the Off-Campus Education Program (OCE). Students from throughout the university have participated in domestic and international internships for academic credit in positions such as those offered by the corporate world, hospitals, law offices, public service agencies, galleries, theaters, broadcasting studios, legislatures, and scientific laboratories.

Students who wish to participate in OCE programs must submit detailed proposals in the semester prior to the start of an internship or study abroad program. Written in consultation with the appropriate adviser, the proposal must make clear the student's objectives and qualifications for off-campus education. The proposal must also indicate that there is a sound educational relationship between the intended course of study or internship and the student's degree plan.

Writing requirements are subject to New College guidelines or those established by the appropriate adviser. A New College or Hofstra faculty member holds meetings and maintains contact with each student involved in the OCE program.

OCE programs are administered by a representative of the New College's Dean's Office in Roosevelt 211, at (516-463-5824).
