On Monday, March 31, 2008 a delegation from the recently established Film and Television School of Sapir College, located in Southern Israel, visited Professor Aaron Braun’s film studies class.
Sapir College hosts the annual “Cinema South Film Festival”, which includes entries from around the world, particularly from developing countries, and has been host to such notable filmmakers as award-winning documentarian Marcel Ophuls.
Professor Braun’s students were given the opportunity to view two of Sapir College’s award-winning graduate documentaries, “Sisai”, about a young Israeli who returns to Ethiopia in search of his father, and “The Chicken and The Egg”, trying to maintain a life of normalcy while living in Israel under constant rocket attacks.
Sapir College’s Film & Television School Director Avner Faingulernt also spoke to the students about filmmaking and storytelling. He emphasized the use of documentary film to ‘connect’ cultures and to provide a voice for the otherwise mute. His passion-filled presentation of these highly humanistic and provocative works was met with thought-provoking questions and enthusiastic responses from the students.
