MASTER OF PUBLIC RELATIONS
Launching in Fall 2013, the new Master of Arts (MA) in Public Relations at Hofstra University is a professional program designed to educate students in a fast-evolving communications field by emphasizing management, research, best practices, writing, and communications tools required within the public relations profession. The goal of the program is for students to become immediately qualified to assume specialized public relations positions and enhanced leadership roles.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
- The 36-credit program provides effective instruction in communication practice; emphasis of public relations work skills and ethics; recognition that the convergence of print, broadcast and on-line journalism greatly impacts the profession; and strategic planning and competent management techniques essential in the practice of public relations.
- Students will take a core of public relations courses: fundamentals, writing, research, survey of public relations issues, communication tools, and the business of public relations.
- Elective coursework will be offered through the Department of Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations, and Hofstra’s Frank G. Zarb School of Business.
- Students have the option of completing an internship or working on an independent study. A capstone project will be required of all students completing the degree.
