Internship Program – Letter from the Chair
Greetings,
And thank you for your interest in the Radio, Television, Film Department at Hofstra University!
The RTVF Department is committed to preparing students for the increasingly changing world of mass communication in the 21st Century. Incorporating the latest media production technology within a rigorous liberal arts framework designed to intellectually challenge students, our comprehensive academic programs provide you with countless opportunities to express yourself creatively and responsibly through film, television, radio, and online media.
Students in our undergraduate programs can pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) in our three primary areas: Audio/Radio, Video/Television, or Film Studies and Production. We also offer a Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Video/Television, Video/Television and Film, or Video/Television and Business.
Essential to all of our programs is an unparalleled internship infrastructure for students looking to work in the field. The RTF faculty has always recognized the importance of using internships within our curriculum. It is our conviction that the unique combination of experienced faculty, diverse academic programs, and our proximity to New York City as a professional back drop to your education can and will create a truly unique experience for the next generation of media creators.
Our best and brightest are able to include up to six liberal arts credits into their programs to add both perspective and professionalism to their education experience.
Along with our great location just 45 minutes away from the media capital of the U.S., our internship program design allows access to hundreds of internship sites in the metropolitan (tri-state) area. It also features the flexibility for students to work throughout this country and internationally as well. Among the sites where our students have worked are Fox Television, MTV, ABC TV, Sirius Satellite Radio, 1010 WINS AM, PBS' POV Documentary series, among many other places.
Students in their Junior year can design internships into their program that allows them to earn one, two or three credits during each semester of the year (winter and summer sessions included). The internships are used to develop both perspective to their studies, and direction towards their career path. During each internship the student will work with a faculty sponsor from their area of study to oversee their off campus experience.
If this looks like the type of experience and opportunity you are looking for please reach me, I look forward to speaking with you. We feel it is the type of program that will truly give you an edge!
Sincerely,
Mario A. Murillo, Associate Professor
