About Us

The Department of Rhetoric provides a liberal arts education that aims to nurture informed, skillful, and ethical communicators who will become active participants in local, national, and international communities.

The teaching and research interests of our faculty include political communication, intercultural communication, performance studies, cultural studies and popular culture, social movements, persuasion, history and theory of rhetoric, and public address.

Our program comprises 3 concentrations:

The concentration in Speech Communication is a rigorous, comprehensive program of study that provides students with a foundation of knowledge about human communication in a variety of contexts. It is highly recommended for students wishing to pursue a double major. | more |

The concentration in Communication, Citizenship, and Public Advocacy is an interdisciplinary program for students who seek to become leaders in government, public service, educational or cultural institutions, and social advocacy groups. It is also an excellent major for students preparing for law school or for graduate school in communication or public affairs. | more |

The concentration in Communication, Culture, and Social Action is an interdisciplinary program intended for students who want to pursue a fulfilling career that requires an understanding of social issues and cultural difference. This concentration gives students the flexibility to pursue a broad range of occupations in the public, private and government sectors, including diplomacy, international business, law, public service, and human resources development. | more |
