Philip Dalton, Assistant Professor; Chair of Speech Communication, Rhetoric & Performance Studies (Ph.D., University of Oklahoma), teaches courses in political communication, argumentation, intercultural communication and research methods. His research focuses on public participation and public discourse. His forthcoming book Coarseness in American Public Communication (Farleigh Dickinson University Press, co-authored with Dr. Eric Kramer of the University of Oklahoma), an argument about the causes and effects of coarse public communication, is due to be published in 2012.
Jackie Schmitt, Senior Executive Secretary, Department of Speech Communication, Rhetoric & Performance Studies. Started her Hofstra career in 2003 in the Drama & Dance department and happily joined the School of Communication in 2009. Has been referred to by students as their Mom away from home and enjoys the compliment. "It's fun to become friends with the students and then watch them succeed in their grown up lives." Also enjoys painting, decorating and traveling with her husband and three daughters.
