Internship Program

I’m pleased to be the Internship Coordinator for the Department of Rhetoric at Hofstra University, and look forward to helping students find exceptional internship experiences. SPCM is committed to preparing students for the ever-changing world outside of the classroom, and we believe your liberal arts training and communication expertise will give you an edge.

Our internship program is designed to give you hands-on experience putting class theory to practice, and our proximity to New York City and greater Long Island allows for limitless opportunities. Former students have interned in media, non-profit organizations, government institutions, educational settings, the arts, advertising and event planning, just to name a few. Former internship sites include: United Nations, NBC, Rolling Stone Magazine, Marvel Comics, the Long Island Islanders and the offices of Joffrey Ballet and the Manhattan Theatre Club.

Juniors and Seniors in good standing are eligible for internship credit, and can earn up to 6 semester hours toward their degree in fall, spring or summer semesters. We work hard to make sure the work you are doing connects to your classroom experiences, and your faculty sponsor will be in close contact with your internship supervisor to make sure you are getting valuable experience.

While there is not an internship requirement in SPCM, we strongly encourage you to pursue internship opportunities in order to enhance your career opportunities. If you are interested in finding an internship, or just have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I look forward to working with you,

Lisa Merrill
