Bachelor of Arts
Bachelor of Arts in Rhetorical Studies -- this program prepares students to be skillful orators and effective communicators in careers as varied as media, politics and government, business, and education. In addition to a broad program of liberal arts study, students complete coursework in culture and identity, performance studies, and public persuasion. Students may also opt to major in Rhetorical Studies with a concentration in Political Communication. Completion of at least one internship is encouraged.
Students majoring in Rhetorical Studies may also opt to take a concentration in Political Communication. This concentration gives students a deeper understanding of the role of effective communication in a diverse society, and is intended for those are interested in positions of leadership in civic life, whether in government, public service, educational or cultural institutions, or non-governmental organizations or social advocacy groups. It is also an excellent program of study for students preparing for law school or for graduate school in communication or public affairs.
The department offers a Minor in Rhetorical Studies that requires the completion of 18 semester hours of coursework, under advisement and with the approval of the advisor.
