Welcome to the master's programs in elementary education offered by the Department of Curriculum and Teaching.
The master's program in elementary education is offered by the Department of Curriculum and Teaching. It is designed to prepare qualified graduate students as teachers in the area of elementary education. The program combines courses in the key areas of the elementary curriculum with work in the foundations of education, human development and the liberal arts. All students in the program are engaged in observation and field work in a variety of elementary school settings throughout the area. This master's program leads to certification (pre-kindergarten through sixth grade) by the State Education Department upon recommendation by the School of Education.
Graduate students who enter upon a program of studies on a nonmatriculated basis are limited to a maximum of 12 semester hours of course work. Matriculated students must complete 24 hours in residence at the Hofstra campus.
The master's program in elementary education is offered by the Department of Curriculum and Teaching. It is designed to provide advanced study in elementary school and instruction for those holding Initial Certification in Childhood Education or Early Childhood Education.

Specialization: Arts and the Humanities
The program is designed for practicing teachers who wish to experience personal growth and development as well as explore new perspectives on teaching and learning as they engage in curriculum organization and revision in arts and the humanities.
Specialization: Curriculum Studies in Multicultural Communities
The M.A. Program in Elementary Education with specialization in Curriculum Studies in Multicultural Communities will prepare elementary school teachers to work in urban communities and collaborate with parents, staff, teachers and community workers to create equitable educational environments. The core ideals of this program are community, democracy, development and achievement.
Specialization: Educational Technology
Emerging technologies are providing new opportunities and options for teaching and learning at all levels. This specialization in education technology provides certified teachers with advanced study in the applications of educational technology within schools .The program includes a common core of courses that integrates information technologies with curriculum and instructional theory.
