Disability and Mental Health VOICE: Vision of Integration, Choice, and Equality

VOICE: Vision of Integration, Choice, and Equality

VOICE is a work group formed by faculty in the Counseling, Research, Special Education, and Rehabilitation (CRSR) department in the School of Education, Health and Human Services at Hofstra University, along with community partners that support the mission of the group to raise awareness about disability and mental health issues.

The mission of VOICE is to raise awareness, encourage advocacy, and provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on issues relevant to individuals with all disabilities across the lifespan. The goal of the program is to connect invested people to a common agenda for change and create avenues for community action. We pride ourselves on the values of accepting the disability/mental health experience as a part of diversity, challenging stigma and discrimination, and opening opportunities to a preferred way of life.

VOICE brings together individuals with disabilities and mental health concerns, families, service providers, educators and researchers, employers, and policy makers to create a base of political and human capital to address societal disability issues at the local level.
