Welcome to the Department of Literacy Studies.
These are challenging times to be a teacher of literacy. What teachers know, what counts as literacy, and what it means to be a literate member of a democratic society are all up for discussion. Here in the Department of Literacy Studies we invite you to join the discussion as we recognize the multiple literacies that occur both in and out of school, as we encourage teachers to become inquirers in their classrooms, and as we advocate for a perspective of literacy learning that is both life-long and meaningful. You will find our masters, certificate of advanced studies, and our doctoral programs exciting places where you can grow intellectually and professionally alongside caring and internationally recognized faculty. Take a moment to learn more about our programs and our faculty through the links on the left. Talk with a member of the faculty about your goals and needs as a prospective literacy studies student. We look forward to meeting you and learning along with you as you work toward your goals, whether you are seeking your certification and masters degree in Literacy Studies, in Literacy Studies and Special Education, in the Teaching of Writing, or are interested in doing doctoral work in Literacy Studies.
