Master of Arts
This program offers certified teachers an opportunity to specialize in the area of writing, while also fulfilling requirements for NYS certification as a literacy specialist in the elementary and/or secondary schools. Courses focus on the most current understandings of literacy and pedagogical practices and are designed to address issues of equity, access, and opportunity for all populations especially those that are economically, linguistically, and ethnically diverse.

Master of Science in Education
The master's programs in literacy studies are designed for certified teachers who wish to obtain additional New York State certification as literacy specialists in elementary and/or secondary schools. Courses in this program help prepare teachers in the field to move beyond traditional school-based literacy instruction in order to address issues of equity, access, and opportunity for all populations especially those that are economically, linguistically, and ethnically diverse. Courses focus on the most current understandings of literacy and pedagogical practices.

The dual literacy studies and special education programs prepare students for certification in both literacy and special education so that they can serve as literacy specialists and teachers of students with disabilities. With a focus on the most current literacy and special education pedagogical practices and an appreciation for student diversity, these degrees support the work that teachers do in the field with large groups, small groups, and one-on-one instruction.

Certificate of Advanced Study

Professional Diploma
The P.D. in Advanced Literacy Studies provides a critical examination of current issues in literacy pedagogy for experienced teachers interested in the professional development of literacy teachers.
