Electives in fine arts and/or art history (200-level). A minimum of 3 s.h. in studio art.

Students choose from courses in fine arts, art history, curriculum and teaching, foundations of education, elementary education, secondary education, literacy studies, art therapy and research.

Professional certification in New York state may entail requirements in addition to completion of a graduate-level degree program.

Elective Courses (6 s.h. under advisement)

Students choose from courses in fine arts, art history, curriculum and teaching, foundations of education, elementary education, secondary education, literacy studies, art therapy and research.


Student Teaching and Co-requisite Seminar (9 s.h.)

At the conclusion of their course work, students are required to student teach for a full semester at public schools under the guidance of a Hofstra supervisor and an expert cooperating teacher in a public school. The placement is divided between an elementary and a secondary school setting.
