About the Program Director
Professor Roberto Joseph has a Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University. He is an associate professor of teaching, literacy and leadership and the director of graduate programs in educational technology at Hofstra’s School of Education. Dr. Joseph is a former New York City high school math teacher and computer coordinator. Dr. Joseph’s primary research interest centers on understanding how the combination of culture and instructional technology can improve student learning. He is a Gates Millennium Scholar and the Director for Project Promise, Teacher Opportunity Corps (TOC), a program funded by the New York State Education Department’s Office of K-16 Initiatives and Access, that is designed to increase the number of historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged individuals in teaching careers. He has developed culturally-relevant educational software used in local middle and high schools.
