  • Educational and Policy Leadership, Ed.D.
    The program in Educational and Policy Leadership, leading to the doctor of education (Ed.D.) degree, is designed for educators in pre-K-12 settings who wish to develop the conceptual understanding and advanced leadership skills needed to create organizational learning environments to address inequities, optimize teacher performance, and maximize student learning. Candidates work in learning communities with faculty to gain a deeper understanding of themselves as educational leaders and to develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for visionary, collaborative,strategic, and ethical leadership in schools, districts and alternative settings.
  • Learning & Teaching, Ed.D.
    The Doctoral Program in Learning and Teaching leads to the degree of Doctor of Education (Ed.D.). The program prepares students to work as educational researchers, curriculum developers, teacher educators, professional-development providers, and mentor teachers in schools, universities, and other educational settings.The program enables students to acquire broad and deep knowledge of processes of learning and teaching, to develop research skills with quantitative and qualitative methods, and to complete an individualized program of studies in an area of specialization. Students also complete qualifying procedures and dissertation projects under the supervision of an Adviser and two Doctoral Committee members with expertise in the area of specialization. The program requires a minimum of 60 semester hours beyond the master's degree that applicants are expected to hold. 
    • Literacy Studies, Ed.D. & Literacy Studies, Ph.D.
      The Department of Literacy Studies offers two doctoral programs: Doctor of Education in Literacy Studies (Formerly Doctor of Education in Reading, Language and Cognition) and Doctor of Philosophy in Literacy Studies (Formerly Doctor of Philosophy in Reading, Language and Cognition). Each program includes a multilingual strand. Each doctoral program in literacy studies has four components. These programs are designed for literacy researchers and teachers who work in universities, colleges, public schools and community settings. We are looking for applicants who have demonstrated exceptional scholarship and who have a strong commitment to literacy and issues of equity and social justice.
