CSTEP Membership

Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP)

Students interested in enrolling in the Hofstra University Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program have an option to be a CSTEP member or CSTEP scholar. Below you will find guidelines for both, but first please note that everyone must meet the New York State Education Department criteria.

CSTEP Criteria

    1. NY State Resident

    2. Enrolled in a science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) program or pre-licensure field; i.e. accounting, physical therapy, law, etc.

    3. Underrepresented student from one of the following groups, African American,Hispanic/Latino,Native American or Indian or Alaskan Native OR from other groups who meet the economically disadvantaged criteria as outlined by the NY State Education Department.

 

How to become a CSTEP Member

    1. Meet CSTEP criteria as listed above
    2. Arrange a meeting with program personnel
    3.Complete CSTEP Application and submit it to program personnel

 

How to become a CSTEP Scholar

    1. Participate in 4 workshops per semester;must be CSTEP sponsored events.
    2. Meet with program personnel 3 times per semester for advising and counseling meetings that may include discussions about academics,finances, career guidance or personal concerns or just to check in to say "hello"
    3. Be in good academic standing

    OR
    1. Participate in a science,technology,engineering or math related research project,unpaid internship, or volunteer opportunity(meet with director to be sure your work qualifies) *Note:requirements may vary each semester*

 

CSTEP Scholar Benefits

    1. Eligible for small scholarship
    2. First priority for opportunities such as:
         a. Mentor Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) students
         b. CSTEP Summer internship position and scholarship
         c. Opportunities to attend conferences and workshops to display undergraduate work as well as meet industry professionals
         d. First selection for books in the Textbook Loaner Program

3. PLUS all the CSTEP member benefits and advantages listed above..

    *Note:Students must meet CSTEP Scholar requirements each semester to remain a scholar*
