Message from the Director
"A hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank...but the world may be a better place because I made a difference in the life of a child." - Forest Witcraft
Welcome to the Office of Field Placement at Hofstra University, the last stop before entering the career that affects everyone's lives. Did you ever think about the fact that every single person in every profession has been affected by a teacher? You are joining an amazing profession and field placement is an integral part of our Teacher Education Program that aims to prepare you to teach the future generation.
Field placement provides you with: (1) learning experiences directly related to the classroom curriculum; (2) opportunities to test what you have learned; and (3) means of evaluating your own teaching skills and practices. Your experiences in field practice are integrated into your classroom work. Because Hofstra has developed unique partnerships with many public and private institutions throughout Nassau, Suffolk, and the boroughs of New York City, our placement sites are varied, of high quality, and offer you diverse and rich learning environments.
Learning by doing, in conjunction with theoretical learning and supervision by a qualified field instructor, has long been recognized as the most effective way to acquire competence and skills in educational practice. Benjamin Franklin said, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." Field placement experience provides you with the opportunity to put book knowledge into practice. Small group seminars and staff are ready to help you through lesson analysis, conflict resolution, and management tips and strategies.
I am excited to be a part of your journey. Please feel free to stop into the Office of Field Placement with questions, ideas, or if you need a listening ear. Thank you again and I wish you the best that life has to offer.
Ann Marie Ginsberg, Ed.D
