From the Dean

Welcome to the School of Education website, which is designed to acquaint visitors with our School, our students, our faculty, and our programs. Our undergraduate and graduate students have joined our community of scholars to share our work in schools, as educators, administrators, consultants and leaders in research. Using the scholar-practitioner model and a sensibility that honors those of a "passionate serving kind," we have created a community that embraces all of our disciplines with a common commitment to educate and to serve.

While our faculty, like all Hofstra faculty, is a teaching faculty, they are national and international scholars whose research is frequently site-based to produce the data that drive policy. Committed to the value and uniqueness of every individual, faculty in the School are involved in teaching students to work with culturally and educationally diverse students and clients. Using the state-of-the-art technologies in our facilities, students working collaboratively with faculty have developed new methods to enhance instruction.

The School of Education offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs that lead to initial certification, graduate degrees and advanced certificates. We offer four doctoral programs in the areas of Learning and Teaching, Educational and Policy Leadership and and in Literacy Studies.

We hope that you will consult our webpages and our Undergraduate and Graduate Bulletins. We especially hope that you will visit our departments to talk with faculty about your educational plans and interests. We look forward to meeting you.

Dr. Sean Fanelli
Interim Dean, School of Education
