The Hagedorn Teacher Fellowship Program

  • Students may apply to be Hagedorn Fellows upon acceptance to Hofstra University for the Master of Science in education, teacher training programs that lead to initial certification.
  • Graduate students will receive up to $10,000 in loans. Loans would be applied in two installments. The first installment would be disbursed upon enrollment; the second installment after a student had earned 15 credits.
  • After graduation, students will receive loan forgiveness equaling one installment of the loan for each year of service in an approved high-needs school district. As such, the loan would be forgiven after two years of service in a high-needs district.
  • If a student withdraws from the School of Education, Health and Human Services or decides not to teach in a high-needs school district, interest is applied to the loan and it is due upon graduation or withdrawal from Hofstra University.
