Study Abroad Programs

The School of Education, Health and Human Services offers a study abroad program in Italy during Summer Session I and II.

During summer session I our exciting two week study abroad program is based in the picturesque town of Sorrento, Italy, located on western Italy’s Amalfi Coast at the southern tip of the Bay of Naples. In addition to participating in daily class sessions and course-related field trips, students have the opportunity to visit incredible sites, in the region including the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum, Mount Vesuvius, Rome, Naples, Positano, and the island of Capri and its Blue Grotto. The program provides a wonderful sampling of Italian art, architecture, cuisine and culture. On one outing, students gain a hands-on appreciation of the local cuisine, when they visit a local country farm kitchen for a cooking lesson, which is later eaten at a traditional meal with the host family. Mount Vesuvius overlooks everyday life in Sorrento, and the local landscape offers fascinating geological and ecological adventures. By simply walking down the cliffside from the Piazza de San Francesco outside their classroom, students find several beachfronts where they can enjoy swimming, sunbathing and getting to know the locals, in this ultimate Mediterranean atmosphere.

During summer session II our exciting 3 week study abroad program travels to several different areas in Italy. During the first week, our program is based in the picturesque town of Sorrento, Italy, located on western Italy’s Amalfi Coast at the southern tip of the Bay of Naples. Students have the opportunity to visit Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius, Naples, Positano, Paestum and the island of Capri. The trip provides a wonderful sampling of Italian art, architecture, cuisine and culture. The Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius offer fascinating geological and ecological adventures. The second week is based in exciting Rome - the Eternal City, also known for centuries as Caput Mundi (capital of the world). Rome attracts nearly 20 million visitors each year. “It has always inspired awe in its visitors, but its particular attraction is that it has managed to preserve impressive monuments and ruins from its varied past, and incorporate them into the present. It is a living museum, an archaeological archive of Western culture, but also an evolving, vibrant city, still creating new architectural wonders.”

Depending on the trip itinerary, the third week enables students to travel to either to Venice or Florence.
