Hofstra University

Chair's Welcome

The Department of Finance provides a quality educational experience. It delivers an undergraduate education in Finance in an environment that emphasizes excellence in teaching and scholarship and fosters a spirit of fellowship between students and faculty.

Finance is often described as an analytical field of study. Yet, having an analytical mind is not the only way to succeed in finance. An imaginative and creative sense of what moves the markets, drives the values of financial and other assets, and keeps a firm financially sound is also a valuable skill.

The mission of the Department of Finance is to teach the applied and conceptual skills required to meet the challenges created by the dynamic changes occurring in the financial marketplace.

Finance majors are a dynamic and diverse group of students. The Hofstra student chapter of the Financial Management Association, a national award-winning student organization, offers networking opportunities and useful career-related information through a series of guest speakers from the corporate world. The Merrill Lynch Center for the Study of International Financial Services and Markets gives students the opportunities to pursue research and to participate in workshops, seminars, and conferences.
