Through the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, Hofstra University is offering students the opportunity to obtain Bloomberg Essentials Certification. An introductory workshop to familiarize students with the Bloomberg professional system is be offered in Spring 2007. Students will be required to attend this workshop prior to being given a Bloomberg account. Initially, the opportunity to become Bloomberg Essentials certified will be offered to undergraduate and graduate Finance majors. Undergraduate Finance majors who have successfully completed Finance 132 will be eligible for Bloomberg Essentials certification. MBA students majoring in Finance and MS in Finance students who have completed Finance 205 will also be eligible.

Mr. John Murphy will be a guest speaker in the Trading Room on Thursday April 20 at 11:10 am. John Murphy, former technical analyst for CNBC, has over thirty years of market experience and is author of several bestselling books including Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets which is widely regarded as the standard reference in the field. In 1992, John was given the first award for outstanding contribution to global technical analysis by the International Federation of Technical Analysts, and was the recipient of the 2002 Market Technicians Association Annual Award. His latest book, Intermarket Analysis (Wiley, 2004), is an update of his 1991 ground-breaking work which created a new branch of market analysis emphasizing market linkages. Stocks & Commodities Magazine (October 2002) described his intermarket work as "unparalleled". Mr. Murphy emphasizes the use of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) to implement asset allocation and sector rotation strategies as well as global trading. His analysis is published daily on Stockcharts.com.
