Causes of the Recent Financial Crisis and Effects of the Bailout

On November 25, 2008, the Zarb School, in conjunction with The MerrillLynch Center for the Study of International Financial Services andMarkets, presented a conference analyzing the implications of theEmergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 on the financial landscape.The program featured distinguished members of the financial industry:Lewis Ranieri, the chairman of Ranieri Partners Management, who is alsoconsidered by many to be the “father” of mortgage-backed securitiesgave the keynote address. Two panel discussions followed which featured,among others, Richard Ketchum, chief executive officer, New York StockExchange Regulation; Edward Altman, the Max L. Heinde professor offinance, New York University and Scott Rechler, chief executive officer,Rexcorp.
