Philosophy

Committed to the belief that art making is healing and life-enhancing, the Creative Arts Therapy Program uses a theory-based, application-oriented approach that prepares Master’s level students to become highly competent, culturally sensitive practitioners. Education components integrate counseling strategies and creative expression to foster personal and professional development through diverse clinical experience, rigorous supervision, quality research, and a commitment to self-awareness, reflective practice, and inter-professional collaboration. Our program prepares graduates  to work effectively in hospitals, agencies, rehabilitation centers, adult facilities, day treatment centers, mental health centers and schools with individuals who have experienced mental and physical illness, trauma, addictions, and changes in living, as well as those who seek personal development.
